Scots Hay’s toun, “farm belonging to Hay”
Location: east Ogilvie
Neighbours: Kincaldrum Hill (E)
Summit: moorland; heather covering a large cairn of unknown date
Notes: Ordnance Survey places the name at NO 411443, on the western slope of Kincaldrum Hill above Arniefoul, but it seems more likely to apply to the long western shoulder of Kincaldrum Hill, crowned by the cairn mentioned above, and terminating above Upper Hayston farm; the Database of British and Irish Hills borrows the name “Hayston Hill” to designate Unnamed Point 315/1, but this moves the name a long way from its apparent geographical origin
