English north + Gaelic bealach, “pass”; presumably the pass of Ballo Glack, which it overlooks along with its neighbour Southballo Hill
Location: main ridge, west
Neighbours: Southballo Hill (S), Ballo Hill (SE), Hill of Dores (NE), Gask Hill (SW)
Hill Lists: sub-HuMP, Tump
Summit: dense woodland with deep undergrowth and windfallen trees
Notes: above North Ballo farm; extensive forestry tracks on slopes, informal mountain bike tracks descending west side
