Scots Smith’s toun, “farm belonging to Smith” or “farm by the smithy” (Dorward writes “there is no known smiddy that could have occasioned the name”, but a smithy was marked on the 1898 Ordnance Survey map of the area, between Lundie and Smithton farm)

Scots Smith’s toun (see above) + knowe, “knoll”
Eastern shoulder of Smithton Hill; former site of Smithton farm, now abandoned and demolished; the spring of Horse Well at this site no longer seems to be active, but Craig Well, farther west, still exists
Southballo Hill (NO 256348, 303m)
English south + Gaelic bealach, “pass”; presumably the pass of Ballo Glack, which it overlooks along with its neighbour Northballo Hill
